Need to Improve Your Speaking Skills?

If you can say what you mean and make your ideas heard clearly and understood, you have one of the keys to success in every situation involving people.

Ipswich Electrifiers is a group for people who want to improve their speaking skills. Whether you want to speak for business or as part of your job, for leisure or social occasions, our supportive and friendly atmosphere encourages you to "give it a try".

Members come from all age groups and backgrounds. If you are 18 years old or more you can join us.

Come and spend an evening with us, without obligation or charge. You won't have to give a speech, and you can join in as much or as little as you wish.

Desperately seeking speakers
The Ipswich Electrifiers Speakers’ Club are seeking one hundred speakers to talk for one minute each in the Ip-Art Speakerthon on Saturday 26th June on the Cornhill, Ipswich .

'Speakers will be in good company,' says Keith Herod, President of the Ipswich Electrifiers, part of the Toastmasters International network of public speaking clubs.

'The Mayor of Ipswich, Councillor Jane Chambers, will open the Speakerthon at 11am and speakers already lined up include our new MP, Ben Gummer, and former BBC Radio Suffolk presenter Rachel Sloane.'

Speakers are encouraged to talk on the theme of My Favourite. We are looking forward to some fascinating insights into Ipswich people’s likes and dislikes!

We did it! Can we do it again?
Last summer Ipswich was the venue for possibly the world's first-ever public speaking marathon. The Ipswich Electrifiers set out to involve 100 people speaking for one minute each, one after the other. We did it!

This year we will be attempting to achieve this again. We will be one of the first events during the Ip-Art festival, with the Speakerthon taking place on 26th June from 11am-1pm. And as we are always open to a challenge, we have agreed to stage the Speakerthon on the Cornhill, with the Saturday market traders as our backdrop!

As ever, we are looking for everyone's support. We need lots of people to speak. Perhaps you belong to a group or business that could field a team? Could you make a presentation about the Speakerthon to your networking organisation - or even your family? Persuade them to come along on the day to take part, or to boost the crowd? We also welcome Club members who could talk to passers-by, register participants, help them onto the stage, or time the speeches.

The theme of this year's Speakerthon is My Favourite. Start practising now!

Cathy Wins Again

Cathy Shelbourne
Despite fierce competition Cathy Shelbourne won the Division 'G' Evaluation Contest. She was supported by several members of the club who helped her celebrate the win.
After her victory Cathy said "Evaluating a speech that you have only just heard, and in front of a capacity audience, is very nerve-wracking!"

Anthony Interviews Dame Ellen MacArthur

Cathy Shelbourne
Our intrepid treasurer, Anthony Rush, interviewed the internationally renowned yachtswoman Dame Ellen MacArthur.

"It is difficult to believe that she climbed a mast in a force 8 gale when you look into the eyes of this elfin 5'2" fresh-faced young lady" said Anthony.
