Practising what we preach at Ipswich Electrifiers
 |
This year’s winner of the Ipswich Electrifiers Humorous Speech Contest had himself to thank for delivering the most successful speech.
Keith Herod had previously coached members on how to win at Toastmasters International contests – and then took the trophy himself.
“We practise what we preach at Ipswich Electrifiers,” said Keith, a former borough and county councillor.
“I had told club members to pay particular attention to what the judges were looking for, and that’s exactly what I did.”
Bonus points were gained during his presentation on film plots by his unexpected re-incarnation as a super hero, and the introduction of some words of wisdom from a pint-sized President Bush.
New member Tracy Milne won the Table Topics contest with her off-the-cuff speech on Coping with a Car Breakdown. In the competition time of just two minutes, she managed to dispense advice as well as entertain the audience with her own experiences.

Ipswich Electrifiers move to new premises, September 2008
It was an evening of celebration all round for the Ipswich Electrifiers, as they returned to meeting at the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce at Felaw Maltings, Ipswich.
“We are very pleased to welcome back the Ipswich Electrifiers speakers’ club,” said Chamber Membership Manager Dick Calvesbert. “Their fortnightly meetings provide such a useful service not just to Chamber members, but to any business wanting to promote itself more effectively.”
